What is Sabbia sand effect paint
Sabbia is a decorative sand effect paint for interior walls — a ready-to-use coating of fine quartz sands and pearlescent pigments that creates a sandblasted metallic finish (effetto sabbiato). Its lightly textured surface catches the light, so colours shift and shimmer as you move around the room, giving the warm, desert-toned look of a Sahara or Kalahari sand effect. Sabbia suits feature walls, living spaces, hospitality and retail interiors, and works on plasterboard, gypsum, wood and metal with the right primer. A finer-grain version, ASTI FINE, is available for a more subtle texture.
How to apply Sabbia
Prime the wall with Silk Plaster BaseT undercoat. Stir gently, then apply Sabbia with a spalter or stiff short-hair brush in circular or intermittent strokes, covering the surface evenly and spreading the quartz filler. Work in sections of about 1–1.5 m², leaving an irregular wet edge to avoid visible joins, and — within 10–15 minutes — brush the sand into your chosen pattern or direction. Coverage is about 8 m²/l in two coats; dry to recoat in 5–8 hours, fully cured in five days. Sabbia is ready to use and tintable.
Why choose Sabbia
Among sand-, Sahara- and Kalahari-style decorative finishes, Sabbia stands out for its simple brush application, strong coverage and the lively play of pearl-metallic light across the sand. It is water-based, low-VOC and odourless, and washable once cured — a hard-wearing, eco-friendly way to add texture and warmth to a room. Browse the colours in the Silk Plaster fandeck, and pair it with Seta8 for a complementary silk-effect wall.
