Travertino Naturale — Lime-Based Decorative Plaster with Stone-Effect Finish
Silk Plaster Travertino Naturale — also known as Intonachino — is a lime-based decorative plaster that recreates the look of natural travertine stone on interior and exterior walls. Made from lime hydrate, pure clay, selected marbles, and natural sands, the material offers easy workability and a forgiving open time, so first-time applicators can finish a wall confidently and a professional decorator can layer it for genuinely bespoke results.
Composition and Properties
- Base: aged lime hydrate, pure clay, selected marble grains, natural sands
- Finish: matt stone-effect with pitted travertine texture; available in Naturale, Romano, and Toscano variants
- Application: interior or exterior, including drywall and wood panelling (with primer)
- Coverage: approximately 10–12 m² per pack across two coats, depending on thickness
- Eco profile: non-flammable, breathable, water-soluble adhesive, no harsh solvents — VOC A+ rated
- Durability: resistant to mould and mildew, UV-stable in sunlit rooms
Why Choose Travertino Naturale
Travertino delivers the depth and tactility of natural stone without the cost or weight of cladding. Its lime-based composition lets the wall breathe, so moisture moves out rather than pooling behind the surface — which makes it a strong choice for bathrooms, kitchens, and exterior facades.
The finish is also fully repairable: a knock, a moisture mark, or a scuff is fixed by softening the affected area with water and re-applying material from the same pack. The patch blends back into the texture invisibly.
Texture Variants
Travertino Romano — a plastic grass brush draws the classic Roman pitting across the second coat for an irregular, hand-quarried look.
Travertino Toscano — a brush trowel creates long parallel grooves in the wet plaster, then a metal blade softens the raised lines after 30 minutes. Particularly striking on feature walls where the Naturale base highlights the coloured marble grains.
Optional additives. Mix in Silver Mica Powder for fine sparkle, or the Salt and Pepper Effect for the black flecks that give the wall a more authentic stone character.
Application Guide — How to Apply Travertino
Travertino is applied with a stainless trowel in two to four thin coats. The second coat is “scraped” at 90° to create the stone-effect pitting; the final coat is smoothed parallel to the grain. See the dedicated How to apply tab below for the full step-by-step guide, including conditions, surface prep, exterior considerations, and protective top coats.
Ideal Applications
- Living-room feature walls and dining-room accent panels
- Entrance hallways, where stone-effect texture sets the tone of a whole property
- Bathrooms and splashbacks — pair with NAPPA, ClearCOAT, or Velatura as a protective top coat
- Exterior facades, with a small roof overhang for protection from driving rain
- Hospitality, retail, and boutique-hotel interiors where every surface contributes to the brand
