Application Guide - How to Apply Microcement

1. Surface preparation: Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, level, and structurally sound. Apply transparent thick 150g /m2 fiberglass mesh on tiled or jointed surfaces to prevent crack transfer. Fill the joints with Ardex A46 or F5 or similar products. In case of tiles, use our Silk Plaster Oteks primer for tiles.
2. Prime with Base Q: Apply the quartz sand primer to create a bonding surface for the microcement layers.
3. First coat - Microcemento Base: Apply the base coat with the included stainless steel trowel. This structural layer builds the foundation. Allow to dry. Sand it with P40-P80 sanding discs.
4. Finish coats - Microcemento Finish: Apply 2 coats of the finish material for a smooth, decorative surface. Sand lightly with fine-grit sandpaper of P180-P320 for the best result.
5. Seal with PU 2K Varnish TOP 890: Mix A+B components for 3 minutes (do not use a mixer). Apply 2-3 thin layers of topcoat. For bathrooms, apply 2-3 layers for extra waterproofing. Sand lightly between varnish layers.

Open time after mixing the 2K varnish is approximately 2 hours depending on temperature. Water can be used in 10 days. Full cure takes 21 days - avoid heavy traffic during this period.

Microcement vs. Traditional Tiles & Concrete

Suitable Substrates

Microcement adheres to most rigid, stable surfaces including: ceramic tiles, terrazzo, marble, concrete, cement render, self-levelling screed, plasterboard (drywall), and MDF. It is not recommended for wooden parquet floors (insufficient rigidity), plastics, or bare metal surfaces. Always apply fiberglass mesh over jointed substrates to prevent pattern transfer.

Seta8 is a decorative silk effect paint - a fine top-coat finish that gives interior walls the soft, “wet silk” sheen of luxury fabric. Light moves across the surface to reveal velvety, shifting shades and a gentle metallic shimmer, so a single wall reads differently through the day. With Seta8 you can create both the classic “washed-out” silk look and the deeper Firenze (Florentine) silk effect of compressed fine fabric - the rich wet-silk look often described as an ottocento finish. How to apply Seta8

Work over a wall primed with Silk Plaster BaseT undercoat. Mix on low speed, let it stand 10-15 minutes and do not dilute. Apply a thin, even first layer with a stainless-steel Venetian trowel; once dry, apply a second, slightly thicker layer, always working the wet edge to avoid joins and shaping the pattern with free trowel passes. Coverage is about 6-8 m²/l in two coats. Keep out of direct sunlight during application and protect the finish from moisture for three days. Seta8 is ready to use and tintable to a wide palette.

Work in sections of about 1-1.5 m², leaving an irregular wet edge to avoid visible joins, and - within 10-15 minutes - brush the sand into your chosen pattern or direction. Coverage is about 8 m²/l in two coats; dry to recoat in 5-8 hours, fully cured in five days. Sabbia is ready to use and tintable.

The Nappa Brush is the dedicated applicator for Silk Plaster Nappa decorative wall paint - the coating that gives walls a soft, velvet touch with the look of suede, nubuck and fine leather. Its soft, wide bristles are made to lay Nappa in fine cross-strokes and then “open” the texture, so the surface develops the deep, tactile suede effect Nappa is known for. The right brush matters: it is difficult to achieve the characteristic velvet finish with an ordinary paintbrush.

How to apply Nappa with the brush

Work over a wall primed with Silk Plaster BaseT undercoat. Apply the first layer of Nappa in short cross-strokes in different directions, covering the surface. Then, working in sections of about 1 m², go back over the fresh paint with a clean, dry Nappa brush and smooth it with strokes in different directions to bring out the suede effect. Let the first layer dry for 6-8 hours, then apply the second layer with the same technique. For a softer suede look, dilute Nappa with up to 10% water.
